I had to chuckle when I stumbled across this. Nice interview! Snoopy was actually the first person I met on the OSGrid. I logged onto the grid for the first time, grabbed a shape and skin from Freebie Isle I think, did a search and tp’d to Snoopies. Without a doubt, she has put a lot of time and effort into helping newcomers get going on OSGrid. She was in the texture shop when I arrived and my first impression was, hmm… she looks kinda short! Actually, the shape I had just put on was unrealistically tall. She told me about a height checker she had in another store. I had been running a standalone sim up until that point and she gave me a couple tips on attaching to the grid so my second impression was, what a kind and helpful person. I’m a middle of the road guy I guess, I do run my own small sim and will build most of the things there myself and upload most of the textures I use. Having said that, being able to pick up a good skin, some plants, trees, whatever… and “hit the ground running” has certainly made my first month or so on the grid more enjoyable. Free or not, newbie or not, there is a lot of good stuff there for people to use and people like her make a virtual world a better place. And I have to believe, she’s like that in the real world to. Thanks Snoopy for all you do to help the community grow!

@Kos - Thank you :) And I agree, OSG would be a great community to join.

@Malon - Maybe you have confused poor with cheap, huh? :) Building in OpenSim is basically identical to SecondLife, so anything you can build there you can build in OpenSim. I think the thing to do to recreate rooms or "the room effect" would be to build skyboxes, that is enclosed boxes at some height that would mean you weren't restricted to only building on top of ground or water with a sky above you... Though that might be ok for your riverboat ;) Solum could create a big black box at a few hundred metres or so and fill it with piano keys. OpenSim allows you to create megaprims and build up to 10000 metres (4000 is the limit in SL I think) so a region could fit a lot of these boxes.

I believe it's possible to teleport from LL's preview grid to OpenSim grids, but you can't access your inventory from the new grid. My account is too new for me to try this out. You can teleport between different OpenSim grids if things are set up right.

Looking forward to seeing you guys there :)

Hello Random

wow.....thats a new ability to be offered to us to solve our hunger of creativity. Say, is it able to build up a "simple" structure like a River Boat? Or Solum`s "Piano Improvisation"? Or Sweet`s big party-room? Bear`s raft? .....?
I thought "Open Sim" was a "poor" version of Second Life. .....haha......an error!!!!

I`m ready to try it. Say, is it true, that you can "teleport" your avatar from second Life to Open Sim (same like on WEBLINS) ?

Great summary of the outrageous prices at SL !! Obviously OSG is the way to go if we can build a community there.
